Privacy Policy
Last updated: 5 July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how DINEY ("DINEY", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, stores, and protects your information when you use the DINEY mobile application (the "App") and related services (together, the "Services"). By using the Services, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account information: your name, email address, and any login credentials you provide when creating an account.
- Fridge, freezer, and pantry photos: images you capture or upload so the App can identify ingredients and generate meal suggestions.
- Household and preference data: details such as household size, dietary requirements, allergies, dislikes, kid-friendly needs, cooking skill, and time available.
- Inventory and activity data: the food items DINEY tracks on your behalf, meals you plan or cook, and shopping lists.
- Subscription and purchase data: your subscription status, plan type, and renewal dates. Payments are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play; we do not receive or store your full payment card details.
- Device and usage data: device type, operating system, app version, and how you interact with the App, collected to keep the Services secure and improve them.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To identify ingredients from your photos and generate personalised meal suggestions.
- To build and maintain your household inventory and preferences over time.
- To create shopping lists and expiry reminders.
- To manage your account, subscription, and access to premium features.
- To provide customer support and respond to your requests.
- To secure, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the Services.
- To send you service-related communications and, where you have opted in, product updates.
- To comply with legal obligations.
3. Photos and AI Processing
Photos you provide are used to detect food items and power meal recommendations. This processing may be performed using automated and third-party AI systems. We use your photos to deliver and improve the food-recognition features of the App. We do not sell your photos, and we do not use them to identify you for advertising purposes.
4. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers: trusted vendors who host our infrastructure, process photos, provide analytics, or deliver communications on our behalf, under contractual confidentiality obligations.
- App stores: Apple and Google process your subscription payments and manage renewals.
- Legal reasons: where required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the Services.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
5. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see "Your Rights" below). We may retain limited information where necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.
6. Data Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can:
- Update your account details and preferences within the App.
- Request deletion of your account and data by contacting us.
- Withdraw consent for optional processing at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@diney.app.
8. Children's Privacy
DINEY is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.
9. International Transfers
Your information may be processed and stored in countries other than your own. Where we transfer personal data internationally, we take steps to ensure it receives an adequate level of protection.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you within the App.
